Cate's update - 14th May
We have stepped up the physical challenge since Ponferrada. Two demanding walks of approx 15 miles, with temperatures up too. 28 degrees from 11am.
I decided to stop carrying the big pack to enable me to enjoy the walks as much as I could .
What I did not account for, or expect, was the return of the Menopause symptoms that had previously been brilliantly managed by the marvels of HRT patches. For the sympathy of my female friends and the education of the male readers - back came the hot flushes to add to the heat, giving my head and face a flashing belisha beacon appearance! Also returning, was the pressure behind the eyes, that make you want to close them constantly. Neither comfortable or Camino enhancing. Maybe the Camino Vino and/or irregular eating, or increased exercise are to blame. The joys of being a women never end.
I shall let you dear reader decide whom to give your sympathy to, Nodges blisters or my menopause.
While walking for hours day after day, you before increasing aware of the aches and pains in your body. There are moments you realise you are pain free, then from nowhere a calf aches or shoulder tension will appear and disappear. Our bodies are being put through a full on boot camp , will we manage to maintains the simple diet no snacks, the muscle tone and strength and weight loss on out return. 🤞🤞
We both feel proud to have overcome and managed the steep climbs and descents of the last few days.
We now look forward to whatever the Camino gives us in the coming days. The time flies. Up at 6am, walking by 7am. Arrival at destination about 2pm. Shower, stretches, hand washing clothes, nap, wordle, text messages, daily blog for Nodge, audio book and knitting for me, pre dinner beer, dinner, post dinner amble around where we are staying, pack for tomorrow, blog completion ( Nodge doesn’t want to keep his readership waiting) and finally sleep.
Buenos noches
Buen Camino
