Day 10 – Santo Domingo de Calzada to Beldorado (Thursday 16th May)

Welcome to the latest edition of “Blister World”  - your monthly look at the Northern Spanish blister scene. And what day its been! We’ve got 4 absolute beauties starting to cause mayhem here on the Camino. Unfortunately I’m 3-1 up versus Cate, with 2 on my right foot and one on the left. However, Cate, not wanting to be outdone on the attention stakes chose to cut her wrist with a pen knife, so we’ve had a lovely day playing Doctors and Nurses 😉. Luckily Nurse Cate has brought full medical supplies – so the steritabs came in handy to stem the bleeding of her wrist. And no feinting.

A Spanish Stork

So to the Camino. For me it’s been a really rotten day – my right foot has hurt every step of the way. Mainly down to my little toe. It’s a really weird thing, taking great care over every single step to find the smoothest possible path. Irrespective of that, we covered the 13 miles to Belorado. I bloody hated it! Notwithstanding the foot issues, the route was absolutely tedious, mainly going along the N-120 main road. There were more than the average number of villages to stop at along the way, but frankly all I had in mind was getting to Belorado.

Cate tells me that the Camino is a metaphor for many things in life i.e. a lot of drudgery with a vicissitudes. So obviously it’s akin to supporting a team like Oxford. Today, however, was one that equalled being knocked out of the FA cup by a non-league team at home. Total carp.

Talking of dyslexia, I did see a dog along the away today, but felt nothing greatly spiritual!

A happy Pilgrim on the Camino today

Utter tosh! What kind of junkie writes "Spare the blisters, walk with your heart"
I'll tell them what for!

The N-120 - probably my favourite Spanish A road! Not

More Storks!

But let’s end on a positive. The early morning light was again superb and made for some nice photos. As did the number of storks nests we saw along the way and here in Belorado.

As for tomorrow, walking any distance is looking unlikely – watch this space.
